Fitness and Exercise? Why?

Fitness and exercise do in fact prevent disease. That is proven, and yet more American and British people than ever are suffering from obesity and type two diabetes which has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. If you are overweight, and especially if you are obese, or if you have been diagnosed with diabetes, then listen to your doctor and begin a regular fitness and exercise program. You and your loved ones will be glad you did.

One of the benefits of fitness and exercise, as any physician will tell you, is that it helps control blood sugar. A diabetic who takes medication daily may find that s/he needs less medication with a regular fitness and exercise program. Many diabetics who stay with their program find that they are able get their diabetes under control in a very natural way and no longer needing the medication can, with their doctor's blessing, stop using it.

Triglycerides are also too high for most Americans. Having high triglycerides has been linked to heart attacks and strokes. A great natural way to reduce your level of triglycerides is to simply begin and stick with a fitness and exercise program, while eating a sensible diet. High levels of triglycerides is also linked to high blood sugar, and it is common for diabetics to also have this condition. In this case, therefore, fitness and exercise can take care of two potential health risks at the same time.

There is much research being done in the United states and the UK into the causes of obesity today. Many point to the sedentary lifestyles of people today, working in front of computers, and watching too much television, driving or busing everywhere. Parents today are afraid to let children out of their sight or have them walk home from school because of the dangers of drugs or gang attack etc. Therefore children are used to being ferried around. This becomes a pattern that is continued into adulthood. Nobody walks these days. In addition, many Americans eat high energy foods i.e. foods high in fat and carbohydrates. Why? They do not need the extra energy unless they are leading active lives or engaged in some form of exercise.

Engaging in physical activity, increasing the heart rate, and just getting active can help a person loose weight, control triglyceride levels and improve diabetes so you should not it. Parents should restrict the time spent by children with computer games or watching television and encourage them to engage in activities that will sports like baseball, basketball and jump rope which have provide fitness and exercise for generations. How many children these days get a bike for their birthday? Children who learn the benefits of fitness and exercise at an early age will grow into adults, who enjoy a more active life, lead healthier lifestyles and tend to live longer, healthier and naturally happier lives.

Fitness and exercise is of course not the whole story. Diet also plays a major part in peoples health, especially today when they are confronted with persuasive advertising for the latest tempting morsel everywhere we go. The ads tell you that you are not cool if you do not eat their product. They almost almost feel guilty of they don't try it. These foods are usually high in sugar and or fat. You do not often see people adds for cabbage or carrots. The commonest vegetables around today are potatoes and corn. However, fewer and fewer people today eat their potatoes unless they have been processed in some way or at least deep fried. The same applies to corn.

Whatever the root causes, fitness and exercise can be a significant factor in dealing with many health issues. It is more important today to make an effort to find a way of becoming more active, whether by walking or cycling to work or getting around to the garden. The important thing for us all is to get out there and do something.
