Fitness and exercise are growing in popularity these days for various reasons. There has been a lot of publicity, on television and the internet, about the health benefits of fitness and exercise. People are also being made much more aware of their appearance as a result of the many make-over and modeling programs that are around. However, this may not necessarily be a good thing as people sometimes look at these skinny people and lose heart.
For many years Americans and now the British have lead a sedentary existence. Now with the huge increase in obesity and an epidemic of type two diabetes people are looking for ways to beat the flab. This has lead to an outbreak of fitness and exercise. People are encouraging their children to reduce their hours in front of the TV and computer games. There is a revival of interest in the bicycle and people are walking to and from work. The thirty-somethings and forty-somethings particularly are joining gyms and jogging around the place like their lives depended on it. And you know, they might.
Other people are joining all sorts of fitness clubs and taking up sports which heretofore have had limited interest from the general public. Among other things the fitness and exercise activities include bowling, racquet sports like squash, golf, summer softball leagues, horseshoes, hiking, horseback riding, and many other fun things to do.
One of the most effective forms of fitness and exercise activity is simply walking. For most people all it takes is a vigorous walk of about half an hour every day to ensure that they have a healthy and fit heart. There is also an explosion in fitness magazines to help people keep informed of changes in their chosen activity. A nice side effect of this renaissance in fitness and exercise is the social side of it. Think of all the people you would meet down at the gym in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. It is a great equalizer. When you are all in your sweats everyone looks the same and it is a great way to meet the opposite sex.
Martial arts is the choice of many young people. This is a fitness and exercise option that is very good for young people as it has all the benefits mentioned above and also helps them develop their self confidence. Unless they compete in their chosen martial art there is usually less emphases on fitness and exercise and more on technique in the early weeks. This is very good for those who have difficulty in that area. The discipline and standards required by most clubs means that they can train in an environment free from bullying and they will not be singled out for their weight.
Fitness and Exercise
Though it is definitely growing in popularity the fitness and exercise craze is far outstripped by the explosion in obesity and its side effects on health. Nobody can do it for you. It is not easy but the result is well worth the effort. You will live longer and be happier if you focus more on fitness and exercies more.
